well i hopw to see you all this sunday, you may not know me, but i played with the MORAY FIRTH DOLPHINS and was one of the founding members of the Inverness blitz. i havent played flag since we moved on to full kit, but im sure i will pick it up as i go along.
can i ask, would anyone be interested in a Fully kitted team is i find funding, it will be with your heads coach's permittion to do so an i will work with him to get funding, i have dun it before so the is no reason i cant do it agen! the will be no point in setting it up if i cant find enough people to play, around 15-20 people min.

Welcome Tom!! A kitted team in Aberdeen must be our ultimate objective, but the financial/fund raising and training implications (i.e. Gym work at least twice a week) cannot be underestimated. I am sure Dave will say we are 4-5 years away from being in a position to seriously consider it, what do others think?

well im going down to dundee to play kitted at the moment which is a bit of a b*tch but worth t since you get to play all the proper rules and unlike flag theres always something for someone to do i.e blocking and stuff like that. i dont think were 4-5 years away atal we just need to get the fact that aberdeen has a flag team and are looking to go kitted out to the public. all the people that play for dundee from aberdeen didnt have a clue about the oilcats and i know that there were a few people at uni talking about getting a kitted team started. so if we can get people in the know we might find that we have enough intrest.

Ok..Im gonna have my say on this...
Personally....I dont see kitted taking off in Aberdeen, Ive been there, I know the internal politics, I know the hassle and I cant see anyone taking it on.
For starters....money.....AT LEAST £15,000 just to get the team off the ground and operating costs of around the same a year.
Next.....coaching and personel.....to run a club with any degree of success you need as you probably realise Hendo, around 8 FULLY QUALIFIED BSL coaches and a roster of 35. Added to that all the support staff, gameday staff etc. Now considering that we are struggling to get people to help for a Flag team, and its basically a three man operation, thats going to be difficult
The concept of a kitted team had been raised at least three times in the last 10 years that I know of in Aberdeen, with major cash backing and it fell through due to a variety of reasons...mostly political.
Its a hell of a task to get someting like this off the ground....jesus it was hard enough getting a flag team on the go.......as for the Uni, I was contacted a couple of years ago by the Uni to try and set up a kitted tream...when they heard the cost and the dedication needed...they turned tail.
Its alright saying, aye lets set up a team...but when people realise its a 7 day a week job, aye even for players, at the Oilers we practiced Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Weight training was Monday, Wednesday and Friday...with the games on a Sunday...it doesnt leave a lot of free time.

Kitted? I'm with Ian and Dave on this. At the moment the time me and Dave (with the help of a couple of others) are spending on Oilcats work is almost like doing another job, and I cannot imagine how much more time (and money) would be needed to run a kitted team. For most of the Club, people just need to turn up on a Sunday but some of us are working on it seven days a week. e.g. Meeting with sports officers and other interested organisations + phone calls re training and playing facilities, trying to put funding applications together and looking for other opportunities to promote the Club, working on recruitment, sorting out the play book, looking to order kit etc. reading the SFFA many rules/guides and attending meetings e.g Aberdeen Sports Council, dealing with Child Protection policies. This is just a small selection of the work needed to keep the current setup going while also balancing family commitments and a full time job. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not opposed to a kitted team in Aberdeen, it's just that I cannot see where the resources to do this are going to come from at the moment. Both in funding and in the people needed to commit the time to take it forward. p.s. However, if someone (reading this) was to pay me £25,000 per year to do it - I would love to take it on.

yea i know, kitted teams are alot harder to set up than the flag teams.
i agree that it may not be a plan for the now, but i am unawair of the History behind the oil cats with regards to kitted teams.
The Inverness Biltz was set up in july 1999 and by july 2000 we had kit and were training in full kitted situations and by novenmber we were playing in scrimmages agenst the inverclyde possie (now the Glasgow tigers).
i understand the was a kitted team a few years ago, would any of the ex players coach or play?

Cheers Gordon Any news on last Sundays stats, I only want to prove that it is possible to play QB in a Dolphins Jersey and not throw an interception.
