Was just wondering what the status of this is. Is it just a rumour or is it a possibility?
Just asking because i'm interested and would like to be kept up to date with whats happening with it.
Cheers

I think most people would be up for this, as indeed I am, blatantly.
So yeah, what's the score with it then?

The one thing i have to comment about this is ,we seem to have enough trouble getting finances sorted out for a flag team never mind a kitted team.

Don't wanna put a downer on this idea as I agree that an Oilcats kitted team would be great! However,
We would need a consistent number of players and for kitted your looking at minimum of 24 ish. That would involve people playing Offense and Defense. As well as people staying Injury free which, with regards to kitted may be easier said than done. There are some guys in the league that like nothing more than to smash dudes up ha ha ;D
As mentioned previously the costs are pretty high with league fees, Training equipment, Full Kit and travel costs. Most teams have Sponsorship which we would definitely have to look into.
Also one other thing would be the transition from flag to Kitted I think a few of the guys have played kitted before ( Mikey, Gary, Todd and Marc ) we would have to train consistently and this would require a lot of effort regards coaching.
I think getting bodies would be our main problem a massive rally would be required to get enough guys. The money looks to be another big factor.
Oilcat Veterans, do you agree? Thoughts?

Guys, here is my view of this. If you can get a team then go for it. It may kill off the flag football which will herald my retirement from playing. I will get my coaching badges and help coach. I will not play contact football any more as I am past it! ;D Here are the minor problems: 1. Cost (kit and travel) 2. Commitment - in order to be able to play kitted you must train a minimum of twice a week as a full team and get your asses into the gym. Multiply the minor bumps we have had by 10 and you get somewhere near what its like to be hit with pads by a 16 stone LB Here is your biggest problem: You need somewhere between 12 and 15 big guys to play line. Without this you have no passing or running game and none of you will see the ball. I would love to see kitted football back here but it will be difficult. lets face it, we struggle to get 10 bodies down to training a lot of the time. try getting 24+ down.

Well, Im pretty sure a few lads from my rugby team would be up for it, will definitely ask!# They are stupid enough to run into people without pads so with pads is no problem!# Need to sort sponsors out though for sure.# Also, could speak to rugby team for use of floodlit pitch and changing facilities?

a kitted team would also require full support from the council in order to work properly which is why Inverness has been so successful. with Aberdeen council desperately looking for money, they're not likely to be interested enough to provide the support, in terms of facilities, etc required. speaking from experience, their provision for amateur football (soccer) is pretty poor. Support for what would be viewed as a 'niche' sport is unlikely to be even near that. I don't think there will be an Aberdeen kitted team unless the UK/Scotland gets a pro kitted team again or NFL games happen at Hampden/Murrayfield to generate enough interest. I would love to play kitted myself, but having never experienced it, I wonder if my enthusiasm would stay after my first full contact hit. If you can find yourself at a team/place where you can play kitted, and you wanna try it out, then go ahead..but it's unlikely to be in Aberdeen the Highland Wildcats seemed to emerge as an option before the beginning of last season as mentioned here: oilcats.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=992

Other things to think about: You will need to start getting a yearly membership going to cover: equipment, ground costs, ambulance costs, insurance etc this will then mean you also need a committee with chairman, vice chair, treasurer etc On the opposite side, I still have a helmet and pads and so do a couple of other guys. We could (possibly) take them down and let the other guys see just what it is like to play in this stuff.
