ESPN had a list on one of their shows last week about the 5 top QB's of the ESPN era, they were in no particular order
Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Brett Favre, John Elway and Steve Young.
Now I can see the way Brady and Montana are there because of their SB wins.....and even Elway and maybe Favre........but Steve freaking Young??? ...and more importantly no Troy Aikman???
I hope the HOF committee realise that Troy has GOT to be a first time entrant this weekend, its out of order and blatant anti Cowboys bias if he doesnt. Hes got three (count em) SB rings, hes 10-2 in playoff appearances and hes 22-9 with TD/Int ratio (and 3 ints came in 1 game when the Cowboys went down 21-0 early on) ...which are all better stats in comparison to Golden Boy Brady...........but as continually happens, Cowboys tend to get passed over for East Coast darlings when it comes to HOF votes......Iwill be watching what happens this weekend with interest
Oh and as a point of interest IMHO, Steve Young was a capable back up...nothing more who choked in the big game

Aikman should really be up there yes, i think he should be on that list, but none of the others should really be dropped. Brady and Montana are obvious, and really i think Elway is more than justified Dave - appeared in 5 SBs and won 2 of em, comeback king, etc... - Favre is Favre and really I still put Young up there with bein one of the best ever aswell.
But you are certainly justified to get miffed about Troy not bein up there!

The only major game Young won in the playoffs was that NFC championship game against Dallas......and thats only cos the Cowboys fumbled the game away in the 1st quarter..........maybe the problem also lies with ESPN cos Troy is a Fox broadcaster.......jeysus they never even had Aikman in the top 40 (aye FORTY) players from the ESPN era.
Aikman won three SB rings...........Young was a backup who was crap at Tampa Bay and only flourished in the west coast dink and dunk pish offense and only won his SB against probably the poorest Chargers team ever.......oh, and hes 1-2 in NFC Championship games to Aikman

i dont think Farve or Young should be there Young only got the starting job bcs Joe got injured By LT with the hit in season XXV Nfc championship game . Even then he didnt do that much,as for Farve why is he the comeback king of qb,mabeye its because he had a poor 1st half and its his fault they are so far behind at half time.I think they should have left Farve and Young out and put Aikman and Marino in the top 5.

Surprised to see Aikman aint up there though. But you have to have Young up there. To say he was only a capable back-up is a bit harsh.... ?? He only won 6 NFL passing titles. Not bad for a left hander.

Bruce if you are trying to tell me that Young was a better QB that Aikman then you are wasting your time....Young gets into the HOF on his first ballot in preference to Michael Irvin???
Believe me, something wil stink BIG time if Aikman dont make the HOF this weekend........or will he face the same bias as Mike Irvin, Rayfield Wright etc

Where the Hell is Marino? ?? I bet he wasn't selected because of his Superbowl record 0-1, still that aside, Marino was the best pure passer there has ever been. I agree that Aikman should be there as well. The List should read: Dan Marino, John Elway, Joe Montana, Troy Aikman & Tom Brady

My thoughts exactly Shaun...Im still pissed about ESPN...and their anti Cowboys bias...believe me there is something wrong if Aikman doesnt get in at the first attempt.....and Irvin should be in as well on Sunday
From the HOF site
With 90 wins in the 1990s, Aikman became the winningest starting quarterback of any decade in NFL history. Finally, after the 2000 season, the Cowboys' six-time Pro Bowl selection announced his retirement from football. His career statistics include 32,942 yards and 165 touchdowns for a passer rating of 81.6.

I think Aikman is up there with the best of them. Those Superbowls rings prove that. Youngs got numbers and NFL titles to back up his entry at the first attempt. Marino made it at the first attempt, he never won a Superbowl. But he has impressive numbers. Aikman will get in at the first attempt. Michael Irvin............ Did he ever win an NFL title? He has a checkered past (Drug suspensions, etc). Nice numbers, but always over-shadowed by Aikman, Emmitt Smith and the Moose in the Cowboys Offense. Young had so much to prove after taking over from Montana, and he delivered. He was a passer and a runner. Him and Randall Cunningham have set the standard for all other athletic QB's to follow there after. For the record, Steve Young finished his career with: 6 NFL passing titles, 7 Pro-Bowl selections, 2 NFL MVP awards, Superbowl MVP, 33,124 yards and 232 TDs passing with an overall rating of 96.8. He also ran for 4239 yards rushing (5.9 yd av) and 43 TDs. With the exception of Aikmans extra Superbowl rings, Youngs numbers stack up well against any NFL QB in history. PS Aikman is a lock for HOF entry

Yeah Bruce The Playmaker might have a dodgy past but that hasnt stopped other ones getting into the HOF........he may have been THE best defensive player of the modern age, and (although it pains me to say it as he is a Giant) one of my all time favourite players, LT with all his drug problems, arrest record and violence had no problem getting in.

As a footnote to the Irvin situation , here is Emmitts take on the way that Irvin's "problems" might see him refused entry
"If you're going to sit there behind closed doors and not show your face and not tell people who you voted for, shame on you," he said. "Shame on you for a lot of reasons, because No. 1 if you're man or woman enough to make a vote against a person, you should be man or woman enough to tell someone why you did it. That's the part for me that's totally disappointing.
