So much for all these unlikely rumours, it's just been confirmed the Eagles have signed former Pats CB Asante Samuel to a six year deal!
This is so fresh, it only got officially confirmed 15 minutes ago (before this post) and there's not yet news on the numbers (gonna be pretty big obviously)
But this is great news for the Eagles, and surely confirms the NFC East is gonna be the toughest division in the NFL this season. This will likely see Sheldon Brown move inside to the slot position, which is his more suited position.
Philly also offered CB Joselio Hanson(RFA) a year extension with a 2nd round pick for compensation if they match another teams higher bid (and he signs for that team). Safety JR Reed has been resigned
As far as the draft (assuming no more 'huge' signings are made in FA or trades) this makes it more likely Eagles will draft a DE or WR with their Round 1 pick. If Hanson goes, they'll add an extra corner in the 2nd/3rd rounds (or trade up in the 1st with multiple picks) or if Hanson stays, they'll just see who's left on the board in the later rounds. It would also increase the likelihood of an OT being drafted - and possibly a FB with Tapeh going to Vikings.
pretty crazy 1st day of Free Agency - can't wait for the rest

They didn't waste much time did they! Full credit to them for getting their man. I can see Lito Sheppard being dealt, quite possibly to the Patriots.

a few opinions reckon they'll may use Sheppard as trade-bait for a decent WR - they're in a Win-Win situation.
A trade is gonna be fairly likely, cos if Sheppard was after a big contract before Samuel arrived - he'll want one even closer to that one. Patriots could do with a CB now Samuel's gone - but with Stallworth gone, 2 other WRs as UFAs and Moss not yet committing to a new deal, Welker is the only Pats WR that could be traded for (if they wanted Moss he'd be here already)- but Pats would be nuts to consider it.
Eagles have at least 8 draft picks to work with this year, so they could put together a nice package that tempts a team or two with a decent WR but more pressing personnel needs. Or indeed move up in the 1st round.
Now while you weren't sure of Fitzgerald leaving Cards - if they can't agree on the the restructuring of his contract - Arizona may be forced into a trade (this off-season or next) as they can't afford to give him the $17.4 million in 09 and they could barely sign any FAs if he gets the $14.6 million he's due this season. CB is also a need for Arizona, so I'm sure Philly are keeping an eye the situation at the very least.
On top of that, a FB is likely to be added at some point in the off-season with Tapeh going to Vikings

Good move for the Eagles...I heard that the deal dad been signed and sealed last Wednesday and was just awaiting official confirmation.
As for Moss....he has said that he only wants to play for the Pats or the Cowboys.......whether the Cowboys would want him is another matter.....but stranger things have happened

IF that's true, then Dallas better make sure he doesn't leave without signing - cos if Moss is willing to visit Philly despite the 'only Pats or Cowboys' thing - that could mean Eagles have whispered some attractive numbers to him/his agent.
An O with Moss at 1, Curtis at 2, Westbrook in the backfield and a mobile McNabb ain't exactly D-friendly either. Tho this may see Reggie Brown looking for a new team. Cos while he could play No 2 well, and Curtis was No 3 at Rams - Philly like Jason Avant at 3, and Curtis is a better contrast to Moss' speed.
It could be a load of rubbish - but there has to be something that's keeping him from just signing a big deal with Pats - most likely, he isn't 100% sure he'll get a Super Bowl ring in a Pats team with an rusty D, but the NFC East is looking a decent bet

I think Moss has resigned with the Pats for a three year deal. A big mistake by the Cheatriots imo, as I advised Scotty on Sunday. Moss will become a cancer when things start to go wrong! Lucky escape for the Eagles and Cowboys. Ian
